8 Crazy College Kids

A pic I did over a month ago and completely forgot about. It’s a tribute art for my fave local comic strip, “Beerkada”. The word “beerkada” is taken from “beer” and “barkada”, a Filipino word that means a group of friends. It’s basically about 8 college kids and is loaded with humor, spoofs, satire, and green jokes. And since I feel like boring people with useless descriptions, here I go:

Glen—“Torpe” is a Filipino word commonly used to describe people who are shy around the opposite sex. A fitting description of Glen who gets into all sorts of fiascos—mostly with girls—thanks to his “torpe-ness” and ability to say things he’ll either regret or get taken out of context in a bad way. Needless to say, most of his relationships end in heartbreak, or even end before they begin.

Dana—A regular nice Ms. Sunshine with the chronic need to be the center of attention. She’s done many things to do so including joining a college beauty pageant (which she won out of default after the 19 other contestants were disqualified in a ridiculous series of coincidences) and wearing super low pants (later hampered by the college’s dress code). She once had a relationship with one of her Professors (one that continued even after the Prof was married) and once dated Glen.

Alan—A laidback—and sometimes downright lazy—guy with an often obnoxious (and corny) sense of humor. He can be surprisingly resilient and will keep going after something or someone he wants. A clear example of when he persistently tried wooing Boopey with bad lines, even interrupting her classes and going into the girl’s room to do so. He has also been know to con others into buying things such as a bike with one handle bar, a “health drink” (chock full of minerals and live microorganisms), an improved “health drink” (purified by mixing disinfectant in with it), and a completely useless ticket too name a few.

Boopey—Possessing a sharp wit and a sarcastic tongue, Boopey rarely hesitates to bring someone down a peg or two, or ten. She especially likes using her sharp wit on Alan who has kept hitting on her since they were sophomores. Eventually worn down, she agreed to be Alan’s girlfriend later on. Though she still uses her sarcasm on him regularly.

Bryan—A huge pervert who’s not afraid to admit it. He has an extensive collection of porn and has “pornographic memory” (he can recall the cover girl and centerfold of every porn mag he’s every laid is eyes on). He will also not hesitate to ogle at, hit on, or cop a feel from any one who’s a female. And I mean anyone.

Harry—An opportunist of the highest degree, he will do anything to make money and take any opportunity that presents itself to do so. He is Net savvy and regularly downloads and sells bootleg copies of nearly anything you can think of. He has also reached global notoriety by creating a virus that took down computer networks all over the world, but since the Philippines has no laws regarding the Internet he got away with it.

Jay—An activist who’ll always find something to protest about, and also manages to drag his friends along with him too. He is also very outgoing and has more than once arranged summer vacation trips for him and his friends.

Jimmy—Dull is a completely understatement when describing Jimmy. A more accurate term would be “totally brain dead”. He can be completely clueless, especially when it comes to having girls hit on him or dating. One of his more memorable lines is “You know what the great thing about hitting yourself with a hammer? It feels sooo good when you stop.”. Surprisingly however, he did get exempted from finals exams for exemplary grades and even graduated as valedictorian!
