Heaven's Twilight - Jenalyn

Since some of my schedule’s cleared up, I can finally get on with the revamping of my four primary original characters and the Heaven’s Twilight story line I’ve decided to put them in. Some of the background and details of said story line have been changed since I first posted them here in my DA journal as have some character backgrounds.

Here’s the colored pic of the Heaven’s Twilight-version of Matt’s sister, Jenalyn “Jen” Dumaloy, AKA the Balance. I did her pic differently from the others since since doesn’t have an alternate form. The split is supposed to represent her control of both Light and Darkness. If you’re interested, here are some character details:

Affiliation: formerly CHANGE, now with the Herald Guardians
Being Type and Abilities:

Jenalyn is the Balance, the being who is destined to rebalance the ever increasing imbalance between Light and Darkness. Unlike Sceadwes, Haligs, Lēohts, and Yfels, she does not have the ability to transform into an alternate form. She can however draw on both Light and Darkness as opposed to just drawing from one of them like the aforementioned beings. As of yet, her Balance abilities are erratic and limited to giving power boosts to her four Heralds and telepathically and empathically communicating with them. She does, however, have to potential to eventually become powerful enough to control the universe, or even destroy and reacreate it.

Like her older brother Matt, Jenalyn (known as Jenina then, though she’s too young to remember this) inherited the grey eyes from her mother’s (who was a Filipina-American) side of the family. From birth she was, by extension, a member of the Consecrated Holy Army for a New Glorious Existence, or CHANGE. However, her “membership” only lasted until she was less than two years old, when her family decided to leave CHANGE.

Her age meant that she was too young to consciously remember the traumatic events that transpired during the Dumog family’s defection from CHANGE. She would be hard-pressed to recall how her uncle managed to save her and her older brother while her parents were killed holding back the CHANGE members who had been chasing after them. However, her brother remembered those events all too well, and that would shape her relationship with him in the years to come.

In an attempt to partially fulfill her parents wish for their children to grow up in a safe. “normal” environment, Delisio Dumog, Jen and Matt’s uncle, built a new life for the kids in the Philippines. To prevent CHANGE from tracking them down, he also changed their names. Her uncle took the name of Edelito Dumaloy, her brother’s name was changed from Matthew Dumog to Mattias Dumaloy, and her name was changed from Jenina Dumog to Jenalyn Dumaloy. Although, for all intents and purposes, she considers Jenalyn her true name since she has no memory of her old one.

Anyway, it was in this new life that Jen grew up in. She was completely unaware of her family’s history and thought her parents died in an accident when she was still young. Her brother, however, did know all about their history and became somewhat overprotective of her. This, of course, annoyed Jen since even unscheduled hanging out with friends would turn on Matt’s strict-parent-mode; to a lesser extent her uncle also did the same. Since she was unaware of the exact reasons why Matt and her uncle were so strict, she always though of them as overreacting and could get very angry and irritated when they admonished her.

Despite this however, she did have a close relationship with her brother and uncle. She also grew up somewhat spoiled and childish since her uncle and brother made sure her life was as happy and enjoyable as possible. Because money was no object—thanks to some funds her parents “diverted” from CHANGE when they left—their apartment, though, nothing that stood out too much, was a veritable paradise for a kid to be raised in.

However, Jenalyn’s life would be turned upside down when her family history finally caught up with her one day. CHANGE, still sore from her family’s betrayal ten years ago, had managed to find her family. With little explanation, Jenalyn found herself on the run with her brother and uncle, chased by armed men who apparently wanted to kill them.Understandably, she was very terrified, confused, and angry. In fact, events of that day were so traumatizing for Jen that her Balance powers (which had never appeared before) suddenly manifested themselves. This activation of powers was so sudden and fierce that she blacked out.

Hours later, she awoke and found a shell shocked looking Matt and a not-much-better-looking uncle. It was then that told her everything about their family history. They told her about how their family used to be part of an organization that wanted to use a being called the Balance to bring about a whole new universe, and that this organization was completely ruthless in bringing about this goal. They also told her what they had figured out, based on her activation of powers, the she, ironically, was the Balance herself. She was also told that Matt was a Herald, one of four guardians destined to protect her, whose powers had been activated along with hers.

This, of course, was a lot to take in for a 12-year-old. And before she could even process what she had just learned, the Herald Guardians and the other would later come and assimilate her and her family into their organization, ostensibly to help her fulfill her destiny. As of now, she has still not come to grips with this new life of hers, causing her to become withdrawn and rather quiet.
